Economy Plan: Frequently Asked Questions
How is the Economy HSD Plan different from other Cable One data plans?
The economy plan provides an affordable option for customers who are light or occasionally users of Internet service. The plan offers an initial allocation of service “bytes” which is replenished monthly. Bytes are the units by which Internet usage is measured.
What is the Byte Allocation?
It is one gigabyte (1,024 Megabytes) of usage per month measured between 12 noon and 12 midnight. Bytes between midnight and noon are not counted. The monthly period is the same as your billing cycle.
How much is one gigabyte?
One gigabyte allows:
  • About 200 high quality pictures to be received or sent
  • Viewing of about 2,500 typical web pages
  • Viewing of about 8 hours of video clips on CNN
How will I know the amount of allocation remaining during the month?
Cable One has developed a personalized web page called My Bandwidth, which will give you an up-to-minute information on usage. This is available by logging into MyAccount.
Will Cable One alert customers when their allocation is getting low?
Yes, Cable One plans to provide an optional, automated alert message that will appear on top of a web page.
What happens if I exceed my allocation?
After exceeding the allocated bandwidth of one gigabyte, Cable One will charge you $10 for another allocation of 1 Gigabyte (1,024 Megabytes). This incremental allocation of one gigabyte is valid only for the current billing cycle and cannot be carried forward. Each incremental one Gigabyte allocation is $10. Should you use more than 5 incremental allocations, the maximum added charge is $50.00 which brings the maximum total charge to $70.00.
Is my overnight bandwidth usage exempt?
Yes. During the overnight period between 12 midnight and 12 noon each day local time, Cable One does not count bandwidth used against your allocation. This means that activity such as software updates and anti-virus updates do not count. You may choose to schedule heavy usage such as downloads or sending pictures during this time.
Does the product work like other Cable One Internet services?
Yes. You can use this service just as they would our other level of services. You need to be mindful of usage, though. For example, some web pages or programs, if left open, will reload automatically, play video, or consume bandwidth while the computer is unattended. Similar to a how a leaky faucet can use many gallons of water over a month, you should consider shutting down an unattended computer.
Do you have flat rate packages in addition to Economy level?
Our economy offering is a new, more affordable level of service. It is designed for light or occasional Internet usage. Cable ONE offers flat-rate plans as well. We believe that by offering both a low-price, low-usage service in addition to flat-rate services, we will satisfy our customer’s desire for pricing flexibility. Customers should contact us before purchasing Economy service and we can review whether it is right for you.
If I upgrade from the Economy tier up to a flat rate tier mid-month after exceeding my allocation, will I still be charged a fee?
No, however you must remain on the higher tier for at least one full billing cycle.
