Setting up your new modem is quick and easy! Please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Make sure you have all the necessary equipment to establish your connection:
Your cable modem. (supported modems can be found here)
A coaxial cable.
An ethernet cable. (unless connecting wirelessly)
Power adapter with power cord.
Note: If you are setting up your internet connection yourself, keep in mind that your computer must have an ethernet card that meets the minimum Cable ONE requirements.
Step 2: If your computer is on, turn it off.
Step 3: Connect the coaxial cable to your cable outlet.
Step 4: Connect the other end of the coaxial cable to the cable connector on your modem.
Step 5: Plug one end of the ethernet cable into the ethernet port (or network adapter) on your computer.
Step 6: Connect the other end of the ethernet cable to the ethernet port on the back of the modem.
Note: Depending on the modem you have, the port may be labeled Ethernet, 10/100/1000, 10/100 Base-T, or 10Base T; it may also be unlabeled. The ethernet port looks like a phone jack, but is larger and it has more pins. Ethernet cable not required if connecting wirelessly.
Step 7: Insert the power adapter cord into the power port on the back of the modem.
Step 8: Plug the power adapter cord into an electrical outlet in the wall. The modem will attempt to connect to the Cable ONE high speed internet service, which can take 3 to 5 minutes.
Note: If the new modem is purchased, connected, and does not blink past its Downstream (DS) light after 30 minutes, there may be a signal/RF issue. We ask you please contact Technical Support, toll-free, at 877-692-2253.
Step 9: Once the modem's "Online", "Cable", or "Status" light is solid, please call the Cable ONE Technical Care Center, toll-free, at 877-MY-CABLE (877-692-2253). We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. We can then register the modem to your account.
Note: To register the modem, we will need the MAC address from the modem.
Step 10: Turn on your computer.
