What are the lights and connections on my Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem?
The Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem (eMTA) has several indicator lights that show the status of its connection to your Cable ONE high speed internet service and devices on your home network. Here is what each light indicates, going from top to bottom (when the modem is standing vertically) or right to left (when the modem is on its side).

Please Note: The label for each indicator light is underneath the light (when the modem is vertical) or to the left of the light (when the modem is on its side).
Indicates whether the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem has power. Should be solid green.
Indicates whether the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem has a good downstream connection from Cable ONE. If it is flashing, it is scanning for the connection. The DS light should be solid green or solid yellow once a downstream connection has been established with your Cable ONE service. A solid green light indicates the modem is connected at a higher speed using DOCSIS 3.0 technology.
Indicates whether the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem has a good upstream connection to Cable ONE. If it is flashing, it is scanning for the connection. The US light should be solid yellow once a upstream connection has been established with your Cable ONE service.
Indicates whether the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem has completed its connection to Cable ONE. If flashing, it is attempting to complete the connection. If solid green, your Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem is fully connected to your Cable ONE high speed internet service!
Indicates whether there is something connected to any of the Ethernet ports on the back of the Arris TG852/TG862. The light will be solid green if something is connected to one of the Ethernet ports, or blinking green if something is connected and actively using data.
Indicates whether the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem is connected to any devices via a wireless connection. The light will be solid green if the wireless is activated, or blinking green if something is connected to the wireless and actively using data.
Indicates whether the Wifi Protected Setup wireless security option is active. Cable ONE does not recommend using this method; we recommend using the wifi security key from the back of your TG852/TG862 cable modem instead. Indicates the status of the telephone that is in the port 1 of the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem. This light will be solid while the phone is not in use and will blink when the phone is in use. It will be off if that port is not provisioned for Cable ONE phone service.
Indicates the status of the telephone that is in the port 2 of the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem. This light will normally be off unless you have 2 telephone lines with Cable ONE.
Indicates the status of the battery in the Telephone Modem. Normal status is solid green. (The modem still requires to be plugged into a power outlet for normal operation)
On the back of your Arris WTM652 cable modem there are the following ports, from top to bottom:
Reset Button (Requires a pin or paper clip)
This button can be used to reboot or factory reset the modem. Pressing the button for 2 seconds will reboot the modem similar to reseating the power cable and the battery. To reset the modem to factory you can hold the button down for about 20 seconds. The Factory Default Reset of the Arris TG852/TG862 should only be done when instructed by a Cable ONE associate.
This port is for a USB cable to connect to the Arris TG852/TG862. This port should never be used, as Cable ONE does not support a USB connection to the TG852/TG862 and the USB connection can cause damage.
Telephone Port 1/2 and Port 2 (grey)
These ports are used for connecting your Arris TG852/TG862 to your Cable ONE phone service. Port 1/2 (to the left or bottom) is used for your first telephone line; this will be the only port that will be used if you have one phone number. Port 2 (to the right or top) is only used for a second phone line with a second phone number.
4 Ethernet ports (yellow)
These ports are for connecting a computer or device to your Arris TG852/TG862 via an Ethernet cable. No password is needed to connect to the Arris TG852/TG862 via Ethernet. All four of these ports work the same.
This port connects the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem to your Cable ONE high speed internet service. The coax cable from the wall goes in this port. The cable will look identical to the cord that is used to hook up Cable ONE TV service.
This port connects the Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem to electrical power.
There are two stickers on the TG852/TG862 cable modem with several numbers and bar codes.
On the back of the modem the numbers that are important are:
Network Name (SSID)
This is the name of the wireless network that the TG852/TG862 cable modem produces.
This is the password for connecting to the wireless from the TG852/TG862 cable modem when connecting using our recommended method.
On the bottom of the modem the numbers that are important are:
This is the hardware ID for your Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem. We use this number to uniquely identify your Arris TG852/TG862 cable modem on our network.
SN (Serial Number)
This number is used when provisioning your modem for phone service. This number may need to be provided when setting up your modem to be used with Cable ONE phone service.
Note: The TG862 and TG852 cable modems have the same indicator lights and ports and use the same software from Cable ONE. In regard to use with Cable ONE residential internet service, they are essentially the same.
