What are the lights and connections on my SBG901?
The SBG901 cable modem has several indicator lights that show the status of its connection to your Cable ONE high speed internet service and devices on your home network. Here is what each light indicates, going from top (underneath the Motorola logo) to bottom.
Indicates whether the SBG901 cable modem has power. Should be solid green.
Indicates whether the SBG901 cable modem has a good downstream connection from Cable ONE. If it is flashing, it is scanning for the connection. If solid green, the download connection is good.
Indicates whether the SBG901 cable modem has a good upstream connection to Cable ONE. If it is flashing, it is scanning for the connection. If solid green, the upload connection is good.
Indicates whether the SBG901 cable modem has completed its connection to Cable ONE. If flashing, it is attempting to complete the connection. If solid green, your SBG901 is fully connected to your Cable ONE high speed internet service!
Indicates whether the SBG901 cable modem is connected to any devices via wireless connection. If solid green or flashing green, it has an active connection to at least one wireless device. If flashing orange, it is connected to at least one wireless device, but is not using any form of wireless security. Cable ONE recommends having your wireless network secured in order to prevent others from accessing your network without authorization.
Wifi Protected Setup Button
There is also a button at the front that activates the Wifi Protected Setup connection. Cable ONE does not recommend using this method; we recommend using the wifi security key from the bottom of your SBG901 cable modem instead. More information about connecting to wireless can be found in our
On the back of your SBG901 cable modem there are the following ports, from top to bottom:
This is a port for connecting a computer or device to your SBG901 cable modem via an Ethernet cable. No password is needed to connect to the SBG901 cable modem via Ethernet.
This port connects the SBG901 cable modem to your Cable ONE high speed internet service.
This is a small pinhole between and slightly left of the Coaxial and Power ports. It is used to reset the SBG901 to factory defaults. Resetting the SBG901 to factory defaults should only be done when instructed by a Cable ONE associate.
This port connects the SBG901 cable modem to electrical power.
On the bottom of the SBG901 cable modem, there is a sticker with several numbers and bar codes. The numbers that are important are:
This is the name of the wireless network that the SBG901 cable modem produces.
This is the password for connecting to the wireless from the SBG901 cable modem when connecting using our recommended method.
HFC MAC ID
This is the hardware ID for your SBG901 cable modem. We use this number to uniquely identify your SBG901 cable modem on our network.
