What are the lights and connections on my Arris WTM652?
The Arris WTM652 cable modem has several indicator lights that show the status of its connection to your Cable ONE high speed internet service and devices on your home network. Here is what each light indicates, going from top to bottom with the modem sitting vertical or from right to left if the modem is laying flat.
Power - Indicates whether the Arris WTM652 cable modem has power. Should be solid green.
DS - Indicates whether the Arris WTM652 cable modem has a good downstream connection from Cable ONE. If it is flashing, it is scanning for the connection. The DS light should be solid green once a downstream connection has been established with your Cable ONE service.
US - Indicates whether the Arris WTM652 cable modem has a good upstream connection to Cable ONE. If it is flashing, it is scanning for the connection. The US light should be solid green once a upstream connection has been established with your Cable ONE service.
Online - Indicates whether the Arris WTM652 cable modem has completed its connection to Cable ONE. If flashing, it is attempting to complete the connection. If solid green, your Arris WTM652 cable modem is fully connected to your Cable ONE high speed internet service!
Link - Indicates whether the Arris WTM652 cable modem is connected to any devices via a Wireless or Ethernet connection. If flickering green, it has an active connection to at least one device.
LAN 1-4 - Indicates the status of each Ethernet port on the back of the Arris WTM652. The light will be solid green if that port is in use.
WLAN - Indicates whether the Arris WTM652 cable modem is connected to any devices via a wireless connection.
Secure - Indicates whether the Wifi Protected Setup wireless security option is active. Cable ONE does not recommend using this method; we recommend using the wifi security key from the bottom of your WTM652 cable modem instead. More information about connecting to wireless can be found in our Wireless Connection Settings article.
Telephone 1 - Indicates the status of the telephone that is in the port 1 of the Arris WTM652 cable modem. This light will be solid while the phone is not in use and will blink when the phone is in use. It will be off if that port is not provisioned for Cable ONE phone service.
Telephone 2 - Indicates the status of the telephone that is in the port 2 of the Arris WTM652 cable modem. This light will normally be off unless you have 2 telephone lines with Cable ONE.
Battery - Indicates the status of the battery in the Telephone Modem. Normal status is solid green. (Modem still requires to be plugged into a power outlet for normal operation)
Rear Panel - On the back of your Arris WTM652 cable modem there are the following ports, from top to bottom:
Antenna - Connector for the Arris WTM652 wireless antenna.
Port 1/2 and Port 2 (Below antenna and Ethernet ports) - These ports are used for connecting your Arris WTM652 to your Cable ONE phone service. Port 1/2 is used for your first telephone line; this will be the only port that will be used if you have one phone number. Port 2 is only used for a second phone line with a second phone number.
4 Ethernet ports - These ports are for connecting a computer or device to your Arris WTM652 via an Ethernet cable. No password is needed to connect to the Arris WTM652 via Ethernet. All four of these ports work the same.
Reset Button/Factory Default Reset - To reset the modem to factory you can hold the button with your finger for about 8 seconds. The Factory Default Reset of the Arris WTM652 should only be done when instructed by a Cable ONE associate.
Reset Button/Modem Reboot (Next to telephone ports, requires a pin or paper clip) - This button can be used to reboot the modem by pressing the button for 2 seconds. This will reboot the modem similar to reseating the power cable and the battery.
Coaxial - This port connects the Arris WTM652 cable modem to your Cable ONE high speed internet service. The coax cable from the wall goes in this port. The cable will look identical to the cord that is used to hook up Cable ONE TV service.
Power - This port connects the Arris WTM652 cable modem to electrical power.
Modem Sticker - On the bottom of the Arris WTM652 cable modem, there is a sticker with several numbers and bar codes. The numbers that are important are:
CMAC ID - This is the hardware ID for your Arris WTM652 cable modem. We use this number to uniquely identify your Arris WTM652 cable modem on our network.
SN (Serial Number) - This number is used when provisioning your modem for phone service. This number may need to be provided when setting up your modem to be used with Cable ONE phone service.
