What are the lights and connections on my SBG6580?
The SBG6580 cable modem has several indicator lights that show the status of its connection to your Cable ONE high speed internet service and devices on your home network. Here is what each light indicates, going from top (underneath the Motorola logo) to bottom.

Indicates whether the SBG6580 cable modem has power. Should be solid green.
Indicates whether the SBG6580 cable modem has a good downstream connection from Cable ONE. If it is flashing, it is scanning for the connection. If solid green, the download connection is good. A solid blue light indicates the modem is connected at a higher speed using DOCSIS 3.0 technology.
Indicates whether the SBG6580 cable modem has a good upstream connection to Cable ONE. If it is flashing, it is scanning for the connection. If solid green, the upload connection is good.
Indicates whether the SBG6580 cable modem has completed its connection to Cable ONE. If flashing, it is attempting to complete the connection. If solid green, your SBG6580 is fully connected to your Cable ONE high speed internet service!
Indicates whether the SBG6580 cable modem is connected to any devices via wireless connection. If flashing green, it has an active connection to at least one wireless device. If flashing orange, it is trying to connect using a wireless security technology called WPS (Wifi Protected Setup).

There is also a button at the front that activates the Wifi Protected Setup connection. Cable ONE does not recommend using this method; we recommend using the wifi security key from the bottom of your SBG6580 cable modem instead. On the back of your SBG6580 cable modem there are the following ports, from top to bottom, with color codes:
4 Ethernet ports (pink)
These are ports for connecting a computer or device to your SBG6580 cable modem via an Ethernet cable. No password is needed to connect to the SBG6580 cable modem via Ethernet. All four of these ports work the same.
This port allows a USB connection to the SBG6580 cable modem. Cable ONE does not support this connection method on the SBG6580 cable modem.
This port connects the SBG6580 cable modem to your Cable ONE high speed internet service.
This port connects the SBG6580 cable modem to electrical power.
On the bottom of the SBG6580 cable modem, there is a sticker with several numbers and bar codes. The numbers that are important are:
This is the name of the wireless network that the SBG6580 cable modem produces.
WPA-PSK or Wifi Security Key
This is the password for connecting to the wireless from the SBG6580 cable modem when connecting using our recommended method.
HFC MAC ID
This is the hardware ID for your SBG6580 cable modem. We use this number to uniquely identify your SBG6580 cable modem on our network.
