I just saw on TV that you may be dropping USA, SyFy and other channels. Is this true?
We are disappointed that NBC Universal has launched a negative ad campaign regarding our current negotiations. Despite the fact that NBC Universal is currently demanding a rate increase that is more than double our previous contract, we are continuing to negotiate in good faith and are optimistic that we will come to an agreement. We are listening to feedback from our customers that they would like to keep these channels, and we will continue to negotiate on their behalf to resolve this agreement and avoid disruption to their channels. For updates on these negotiations, please visit: www.StopProgrammingHikes.com.
What's going to happen if you drop these channels?
As always, our goal is to come to a fair resolution for both sides, and we hope that we can come to an agreement with NBC Universal. If we are not able to come to an agreement, we will review and make changes as needed to our line-up to ensure that we continue to provide the quality TV programming our customers have come to expect.
Why does it seem like you're always in the middle of negotiation issues?
We negotiate numerous contracts every year, and the majority of these agreements are resolved with no issues. We are hopeful that this will be the case with NBC Universal as well.
Why don't you just pay NBC Universal so that I don't lose my shows?
Cable ONE knows that price is important to our customers. The price we charge our customers is directly affected by what we pay for programming. We negotiate dozens of contracts every year - if we agreed to large rate increases on every channel we carry, that would mean substantially higher rates for our customers.
You say you are fighting to keep our bill low, but yet you raise prices every year.
At Cable ONE, we are committed to providing our customers with the best TV programming at a reasonable price and we make every effort to minimize costs. As you have seen from recent negotiations, we are doing all we can to ensure you don't suffer unfair price increases as a result of unreasonable rate increase demands from channel programmers.
In the past three years, local broadcast stations and cable networks have increased their rates by an average of 37%. In 2015, more than 120 local TV stations and cable networks will again increase their rates - some by as much as 65%. We don't match their increases, but Cable ONE must adjust pricing somewhat so that we can continue to deliver the quality cable programming our customers have come to expect.
